Mickie's House
8/25/2020
7:00p.m.
Its been weeks since Sigma's defeat. Peace has returned but at a high cost for Mickie. Mickie is standing on the back deck. She looks out over the back yard at the other houses in the neighborhood. She's standing there in her barefeet and dressed in her shorts and a Cincinnati Reds shirt. Her long brown hair pulled into a ponytail. The look of sadness on her face tells the story.
Mickie: The war is over...yet I can still see those android's. Sigma may be gone...but his shadow is still over me. I question...did we do the right thing? After all...This isn't our true home. Earth belongs to the human's...and the human's fear us. Maybe we should have left...years ago...go to live with our own people.
Mickie looks down at the ground. She shakes her head.
Mickie: Ah. Who am I kidding? Of course we did the right thing. We had no choice but to go to war. Sigma was not going away...and he wasn't gonna stop. Rather the human's like us or not...this is our home. And this will always be home to me.
Mickie runs her fingers through her hair as she looks down at her own feet. Her mind racing as it seems a million questions with no answers is running through her mind. After a few moments. She looks out over the backyard. The old man and woman in the house across from her is in their back yard with their grandkids. The old couple watches the kids play. Even this isn't enough to make Mickie smile. But she feels good in her heart. A warm feeling. Even though Mickie and the Saiyan's got no thank you's from the human's. They would fight again. And again...And even again.
Mickie: We made the right choice.
There's 3 kids in the back yard playing. Mickie watches them play. The kids take a moment to smile and wave at Mickie. Mickie waves back. The kids go back to playing. Mickie stands on the back deck and she looks out over the yard. She looks around her neighborhood at the other houses. A young girl plays with a dog in her yard a few houses down.
Mickie: War comes with a price...the price of freedom is never free...Simply put...war is Hell...and War...War never changes.
Katie and Victoria are in the living room. They look out the back door at Mickie.
Victoria: Is she still out there?
Katie: Yeah. I hate seeing her so sad like this. I just wish there was something we could do for her.
Victoria: I know...I...just...still can't believe what happened.
Katie: I know. I can't believe he's gone either.
Victoria: Sebastian was a good guy. Always treated Mickie right. Was a perfect gentleman.
Katie: Makes you wonder why bad things like that happen to good people.
Victoria: I know...so young.
Katie: Where's Trish?
Victoria: Down in her lab. Where else?
Katie: Hm...Should have known.
Suddenly the back door opens and Mickie walks in. She closes the door back. Mickie flops on the sofa.
Katie: I'm gonna talk to her.
Victoria: I'm gonna finish cooking dinner.
Katie and Victoria have been working on cooking up some tacos and nacho's and cheese. Katie walks to Mickie.
Katie: Hi Mickie.
Mickie sits back and she changes the tv to the Reds baseball game. The game is just starting. The Reds are on the road against the Cubs.
Mickie looks at Katie.
Mickie: Hi.
Katie sits by her.
Katie: Mickie. I know you love baseball and I know you want to watch the game...but we need to talk.
Mickie: What about?
Katie: You've been silent for weeks. I know your hurting but...this isn't like you. You didn't even fall silent when we lost dad.
Katie mutes the tv.
Katie: Mickie. Talk to me.
Mickie: Oh Katie. Can't it wait until the game is over?
Katie: No we need to talk now. What all is bothering you?
Mickie: Alot.
Katie: Like what? Talk to me so I can help you.
Mickie: I don't know Katie...I'm just...too depressed to talk.
Katie: Mickie. The kids are starting to notice how different you've been recently. And they need their mommy.
Mickie: I know...I know. I just...I don't know.
Katie: Come on Mickie.
Mickie: Katie I know you don't understand...but...this is a hard blow for me. Last time we all took a hard hit. Trevor lost his girl. We lost our dad. Tori and Trish lost their mom. I just lost my husband. This is...hard for me. And I'm...very depressed right now...I've never hurt so bad. I'd rather take a rough beating. And...well. The pain is getting worse.
Katie: Worse? What do you mean? Like how?
Mickie: I feel like I'm falling into deep darkness.
Katie looks confused.
Katie: Hm.
Mickie: I'm so scared. What are we gonna do? We have no money coming in now.
Katie: Oh honey. We'll figure something out.
Mickie: Do you...do you think we could go back to the store? I mean. We could go back to unloading trucks and stocking shelves.
Katie: We could give it a try. I'm sure they would take us back. I mean. We were two of their best.
Mickie: I got 4 kids to take care of now.
Katie: I know. We'll take care of them. Don't worry sweetie.
Katie puts her arms around Mickie and she gives her a kiss on the cheek.
Mickie: But it won't be enough. We're gonna need more.
Katie: Maybe we can get Tori on at the store too.
Mickie: Think it will be enough?
Katie: With the 3 of us I think it will be more than enough. Trish can be our babysitter.
Mickie: Yeah. Yeah. That...should work.
Katie: Okay sweetie. Just sit here and enjoy your game.
Katie turns the sound back on and she gets up. Mickie props her feet up on the coffee table and she watches the Reds.
Announcer: And now stepping up to bat for the Reds is slugger Drew McMahon. Its the top of the 3rd. 1 out and 2 men on base. The Cubs lead 2-0. This is a big chance for the Reds.
Announcer 2: Drew is one of the biggest sluggers for the Reds since the days of Ken Griffey Jr.
Announcer: Reds fans love him. He's hit 52 hom runs on the season and he's a big reason why the Reds are 2nd in the division.
Announcer 2: The Reds are just fine when it comes to offense. Their bats are on fire and they have no problem putting up points on the board. They really need to focus more on defense and maybe bring some speed. Not only that but get some good pitching. Maybe pick up a new starting pitcher and try to fix up the bull pen a bit.
Announcer: The Reds bull pen has been a mess all season.
The pitcher pitches a high fast ball. Drew swings for the long ball but its a swing and a miss.
Crowd: Ohh!
Announcer: Oh and Drew wanted that one. The ball got away from Greg Allen. Drew loves that pitch high and inside.
Announcer 2: Yeah. If Drew makes contact there then that balls gone.
Katie and Victoria finish cooking dinner. They have tacos and nacho's and cheese for them and chicken nuggets and fries for the kids.
Announcer: Oh! And another high pitch and a swing and a miss. Drew wanted that one too.
Announcer 2: Yeah. Its almost like Greg Allen is taunting Drew by throwing high. Everyone know's Drew loves that high ball.
Rebecca walks into the kitchen.
Katie: Hi sweetie. Hungry?
Rebecca: Yes.
Rebecca looks at Mickie.
Rebecca: Aunty Katie...what's wrong with mommy? She looks so sad.
Katie: Aw sweetie. She's...having problems right now. She'll get better.
Rebecca: You promise?
Katie: Of course sweetie.
Rebecca smiles and she sits at the table. Katie gives her some food. Angel comes into the room as well. Katie gives her some food as well. Victoria comes into the room with Madison and Sabrina.
Victoria: Alright. Time for these little rug rats to be put in the play pen.
Victoria puts them in the play pen and Katie gives them some food.
Announcer: And its a full count. 3-2.
Announcer 2: Drew is a careful batter. He never swings at a pitch out of the zone.
Announcer: Its rare. That's for sure.
Greg Allen throws in a high curve ball. Drew swings and he makes sweet contact. The ball flies high and deep. The outfielders move back.
Announcer 2: Oh! Drew McMahon with great contact!
Announcer: Its high! Its deep! Oh my! That baby is outta here! Its gone!
Announcer 2: And just like that. The Reds take the lead over the Cubs 3-2.
Katie takes some Tacos and nachos and cheese to Mickie.
Katie: Here you go Mickie.
Mickie takes the food and she begins to eat. Katie and Victoria sit at the table.
Victoria: Angel sweetie. Be careful. Don't stuff too much in your mouth. You might get choked.
Trish comes upstairs and she gets some food and she sits at the table.
